GOALS: 4 Things That Hinder Your Goals

"It's not your abilities, but what makes the difference is your thinking and the direction of where you're going". ~ Zig Ziglar

Good morning! Welcome to the Keto Mom page. My name is Stephanie, and we're going to dive into giving you an awareness of "4 things that could keep you from hitting your goals".

So as you're tuning in, where are you tuning in from? I'm going to go over one of the chapters in this book called "Goals" by Zig Ziglar. I grabbed this book off the shelf this morning, mainly because I've been getting a lot of messages about, "goal setting", "how to set goals", "I want to hit this goal and I've tried all of the things, but it's not working"...

I want you to know that if you just have an awareness of why you're doing what you're doing, you can move further faster. So we're going to talk about some reasons that can hold you back from hitting your goals.

𝗜 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗻𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮 𝗵𝗮𝗺...

A lady went to the store and bought a ham. She came home and was about to prepare the ham when the husband went to cut off both ends of the ham before he was going to help cook it.

The wife then asked, "Why are you cutting off the ends of the ham?". The husband answered, "You're supposed to cut off the ends before you cook the ham". And she was like, "Why?", and he answered, "I don't know, it's what my mom did before. She cut off both ends of the ham". But the wife was persistent, "But why did she do that?".

So the husband called his mom and his mom said, "Well, grandma always did it like that". So then he called his grandma, and his grandma's answer was, "Well, I had to cut off the ends of the ham because it didn't fit in the pan"...

Isn't it interesting how we do things in our life because of the way our parents did it, or the people before them? Just like grandma cutting off both ends of the ham, it had no special reason behind it except that she did not have a big enough pan. And there was no special reason why it was passed down from generation to generation. But years later, they still kept doing it because grandma always did it that way.

Here's what you need to understand when living your life. Have an awareness and just ask yourself...

  • Why do I do certain things?

  • Why do I eat certain foods?

  • Why do I not believe I can do things?

𝗜𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁.
Something that somebody said to you, or it's always been that way. But did you know that you can change and stop that?
Just because it was always done a certain way doesn't mean it always has to be done that way.

Reasons That Hinder Your Goals.

  • Why are you doing what you're doing?

  • Why are you not achieving what you want to achieve?

  • Why are you at a stall?

  • Why can't you get past that roadblock?

1. FEAR

You're afraid!

You might be afraid of success or failure. Maybe one of these resonates with you. The first reason is because of fear. The author then gives statistics about how many people live their life out of fear.

"I'm afraid I won't get to where I want to go so I'm just not going to do anything".

Is it fear that's holding you back?

2. Poor Self Image

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳?

Do you view yourself from who you truly are, or are you viewing yourself because of the words that other people have said about you in the past? Are you afraid? Do you have a poor self-image because of things that somebody has said to you?

Part of hitting your goals, or setting goals is taking an inward look at yourself.
  • I want more.

  • I am worth it.

  • I am worthy.

You also have to learn to love yourself. How do you do that? By reading and by asking other people. Oftentimes, we're afraid of what other people think of us. But if you were to actually get feedback from other people that truly love and value you? They would tell you all of the great things about you.

Maybe you need somebody just to speak life in you, and all these things can be worked on.

3. No Buy In

"The reason 97% of the people don't have goals is that they have never really understood or been sold the importance of goals".

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝗼 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀?

We were at a park yesterday. Our life for years has been in the self-development space, or we always worked on ourselves. We have had mentors for years, and very early on in our marriage.

So we've always been around really great people. People who are older than us, and people who have done things we want to achieve, so that we could learn and go further faster.

We were taught the power of goals. We saw it in other people's lives, and we saw the fruits of their labor.

I was sitting with somebody yesterday on a picnic bench at the park. He was talking about his job and how he's going to be at the optimal level of his pay after one more year. And I said, "That's so great! What are your goals after that? What are your goals with the money that you're saving?"...

It's so interesting, because he said, "Nothing".

I think he's 23 or 24 years old, with NO Goals. My husband and I have had these conversations with lots of people around us. We'll ask them "What are your goals?", "What are you excited about in life?". Most would say, "Nothing".

  • It could stem from your past.

  • It could be because your parents didn't have goals.

  • It could be something that you were not taught.

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀, 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗶𝘁.

Goals are important! If you don't have something that you're striving for to move forward in your life, you're either moving forward and growing or you're moving backward.

Most people think, "I'm just going to stay here", "I'm great where I'm at", and "I'm going to live in this comfort zone". You don't just stay! You're either moving forward or backward.

  1. Why are you not going after the things that you want?

  2. What are your passions?

  3. What are some things you're good at? What are some things that you've always wanted to do?

  4. What are the places you wanted to see?

  5. What personal accomplishments do you want to achieve?

Let's write them down and then let's put the work in, to figure out how to get there.

Do you not understand the power of goals? Because if you're not shooting for anything, then you're simply going to go backward.

4. MOTIVATION/ I Don't Know How.

A lot of people say, "I just don't feel motivated to do anything".

They have it backward. When they go ahead and do something that's when they will feel motivated to do it again.
𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆.

So you have to start something and as you start it, you will have more motivation and inspiration to keep going. Oftentimes people just don't feel motivated but remember that it doesn't just magically pop into your head someday for you to do it. You're going to have to take the action of stepping out and doing something for you to get energized to move forward.

"I just don't know how"...

That's where you have to plug into mentors, books, and podcasts. We have so much information, wisdom, and knowledge at our fingertips. There's absolutely no excuse for not knowing how to do something.

"Most people don't want to put in the work".

But take for example a farmer. A farmer has to get the land ready. He's got to plant the seeds, water them, and have patience. He needs to get rid of the bugs and all those things before he can get the harvest at the end of the season.

Same thing with you! You're going to have to do the work to figure out your goals.
  • I am worth it.

  • I am worthy.

  • There are things I want to accomplish.

  • I'm not going to live in fear.

  • I want to get up and own my day.

  • I'm going to read and learn from people that have already done the things I want to do.

  • I'm going to put in the work.

𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗮𝗽, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀 𝗹𝘂𝗰𝗸.

Unless maybe it's the lottery, then I guess there's luck there. But I don't believe in luck, I believe in hard work. And if you're not willing to put in the work, you can't use the excuse of you don't know how. You're going to have to go figure out how. You might not feel motivated to do it, but you will have to take the baby steps in order for motivation and inspiration to hit you so hard, that you're going to keep going.

Do not let fear, lack of self-image, the idea that goals aren't important, and the lack of knowing "How" to do something, hold you back from getting that deep passion out of you.
  • I just want to be healthy.

  • I want to be strong.

  • I want to feel better.

You know you've got to put in the hard work. Oftentimes you know what to do, you know the simple steps that you're going to have to take in order to get to where you want to go.

If you need help with your finances, find a financial advisor. Find somebody around you that has a great understanding of money and ask them to help you. You know that you shouldn't be going to target. You know that you should take off the buying apps on your phone so you don't go and shop.

It's the same thing with weight loss. You know you should get the Oreos out of the house. You know you should go for a walk. You know you shouldn't be going through the drive-thru. You know the simple steps you need to do, you just have to get into the groove of doing it in order to achieve what you want.

𝗜𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲.

Don't fall into those 4 traps of not doing something.

  1. Fear

  2. Self Image

  3. No Buy In

  4. Not Knowing How To Do It

We're in an age of there should be absolutely no excuse at all. Between people to watch, and the numerous books around you. There are simple videos on YouTube that are all free at your fingertips, to help you learn how to do something.

"It's not the abilities, but what makes the difference is your thinking and your direction of where you're going".

It's your thinking! Don't have that stinking thinking. It doesn't serve you, or anybody around you. If you have stinking thinking, then you better start reading a book, listen to somebody, or be around other people that are positive thinkers.

Alright! This is the book I'm going through, it's called "Goals" by Zig Ziglar. It's a really simple little book. I know people have been asking if there's a new book we're going to go through, but I haven't found one just yet.

𝗪𝗲'𝘃𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝟭𝟱-𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿-𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘀 𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗿.
A lot of the books are about self-development books. One day, she told me that they were all the same.
They're not all the same, but the basic concepts are about the power of your thinking, finding good mentors, consistency, discipline, and all of those things.

I'm still trying to figure out a book that we haven't done that might give some different tips. But in the end, my daughter is right. Most books have the goal of helping you become a better person.

A lot of these books have to do with your mindset. If you're not willing to put in the work, and you're not willing to work on your mindset. Then you're going to be staying at the same place that you are today, for the rest of your life. That's just the simple truth.

It doesn't matter if you're reading a hundred other books, clearly, they're all going to walk you through thinking first, watching the words that you speak, getting around people that inspire you, and then taking action.

Have an awareness of, "Are you afraid?" and "What's holding you back?"

𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱, 𝗽𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲.
And you will be able to achieve the goals that you've always wanted to accomplish.

I hope you have an incredible morning. Thank you for tuning in. It's going to be an incredible Monday. Why? Because I'm choosing for it to be an incredible Monday.

  • I get to homeschool my girls.

  • I get to go to CrossFit later.

  • I get to choose better foods and stay healthy and strong for our kids.

Your words and the way that you think matter. It's not "I have to", but "I get to".
  • You get to go to work to provide for your family.

  • You get to go to the gym to be a healthier parent or spouse.

  • You get to eat healthily so that you live longer and feel better.

Change your thinking, change your words. It's important. I hope you have an incredible morning and we'll talk to you soon!
