Net Carbs Vs. Total Carbs and Ketones

Do you consider yourself a very strict keto or a more lazy keto? You're either following something very strict, or you're more low carb, which is fine. If you're eating pre-packaged foods, just look at the back. A net carb is simply subtracting the total carbs, sugar alcohols, and fiber from the actual carb count.

Hey everybody! Welcome to the Keto Mom page, my name is Stephanie. I'm tuning in from Minnesota, and it's actually cold where I'm at.

And as you're tuning in, where you're tuning in from? If you're tuning in anywhere in Florida, we have been praying for everybody in Florida. We are praying for everybody's safety. Keep our Florida friends in your prayers.

NET CARBS VS. TOTAL CARBS

  • How do I decipher Net carbs from Total carbs?

  • Which one do I do?

  • Should I follow net carbs?

  • Should I follow total carbs?

Today we're going to talk about Net carbs and Total carbs. I'm going to give you an example of how to calculate that.

DRINK KETONES CHALLENGE

But first, I'm going to shake up my ketones, I call it my Mom fuel. I'm doing caffeine-free "Prickly Pear seasonal flavors. These flavors aren't always around, and I absolutely love this one.

I'm also going to talk about our October challenge. I've been drinking Ketones for seven years now. It puts you in ketosis in under an hour, which means it gives you energy. Somebody messaged me saying she always hits a two o'clock wall every day.

Over seven years ago, that used to be me. Every day, I would turn on the TV and I would say, "Mommy just needs a nap". But I don't do that anymore, and I haven't taken a nap in seven years. I needed the energy to stay awake, I didn't want to be slamming energy drinks, and I'm not a coffee drinker too.

If you had to pick between these three things, which one would you choose?

  1. More energy?

  2. Fat loss?

  3. Appetite Control?

Some of you would say all three. I hands down needed the energy to just get through my day, not feeling crabby. And so that's why I drink ketones. Your body can make ketones, especially if you're on a ketogenic page like the Keto Mom page.

We help you here by sharing Keto and low-carb recipes, different keto tips and tricks, drinking more water, and electrolytes, and moving your body.

Your body can make ketones if you do the keto diet properly, and for a certain period of time. Hopefully, your body will make them, and once your body runs off of ketones and not sugar or carbs like glucose, it then becomes a fat burner.

Alright! There are different ways you can grab or trial these ketones. We have different trial packs, and we've got a challenge pack which is super great.

People usually ask about the cost, but most people are already spending money on energy drinks, protein shakes, or even Starbucks coffee every single day. Most people go through a drive-thru, they get their nails done, and all of those other expenses. It's $5 a day, and you're still saving because you're snacking or eating less and you're not spending so much money on other things.

Ketones are my tool. It helps me not go through a drive-thru, or line for coffee every single day. There are a lot of things I choose not to do because it's a tool for me. It's absolutely incredible and I've been drinking it for seven years. This is one of my new favorites, it's called Prickly Pear.

If you want to know about the sale, or how you can save, we have a 25% off seasonal flavors.

We also have an October challenge, which includes our challenge box. It's got 10-caffeine or caffeine free, it's a variety of five different flavors.

You'll be added to my accountability group, we're going to do prizes, play bingo, and have fun. I'm also going to give you tips every day and help you with your food. We're going to work on eating a low carb, being carb-conscious, or being as strict as you want to be.

We're also going to work on drinking more water, moving your body if you can, and drinking ketones once or twice a day. I'm going to coach you through it and see what you think. We're going to pay attention to your energy, focus, and appetite control.

There are some flavors that are more tart, but this one is sweeter. It's like a pear combined with a watermelon and cotton candy, but not crazy sweet, and it's delicious.

KETO TIP: Net carbs and Total carbs.

Do you consider yourself a very strict keto or a lazy keto?

You're basically either following something very strict, or you're more low carb, which is fine. There are some of you who don't track anything, you just take the buns off your burgers and the croutons off your salad. That's how most people make this a lifestyle.

Now, there is a lot of keto, low-carb pre-packaged products that have come out. So let's take this keto bar, for example, it says 15 carbs if you look at the back, or where it says total carbs. So you can look at the total carbs, subtract the fiber and sugar alcohols, and that gives you a net carb of four. That means this keto bar is 4 net carbs.

If your goal is to calculate under 50 carbs a day and do low-carb or be more carb-conscious, then you'll have to be aware of what you're choosing and how you're calculating it.

𝗔 𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗿𝗲-𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜'𝗺 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗮𝗱.
This is really great for traveling on the go, especially if you're taking your kids from this sport to that sport.
These prepackaged snacks will get you by, and they are a better option instead of going through the drive-thru.

So again, a net carb is simply taking the total carbs and subtracting sugar alcohol, and fiber. That means this keto bar should not spike your insulin, and it's a better option than a Snicker bar.

Why do I do total carbs versus net carbs?

Everybody's different. If your goal is to maintain or just do the best that you can. It's either grab a Snickers bar, or the keto bar. The Keto bar is clearly a better option.

Some of you are super strict on keto and you have a lot of fat to lose. These keto snacks, while they're a better option, might not be the best at the moment. It's a better option, but everybody's different.

Some people will ask me a lot of medical questions, but I'm not a doctor. But there's a book that you could go and grab.
It's called the "Ketogenic Bible" by Dr. Ryan Lowry and Dr. Jacob Wilson.
These 2 doctors are the ones who formulated and created the ketones and they have this incredible book.

So if you want to understand things like "Insulin-resistance", then this book will help walk you through the actual ketogenic diet. It also answers a lot of medical questions, and it has a ton of keto recipes. This book will walk you through what is best for you, how to calculate that, and why your body might do better with total carbs.

I'm not a doctor, but I can give you a general idea of what you should be drinking, the food you should be eating, what are some better options, and how to move your body. I will help you with an overall viewpoint from a mom perspective, who has learned over the last seven years from different experts and doctors. I've already met Dr. Ryan and Dr. Jacob. Almost every year we meet them, we hang out with them, and we've been into their labs in Florida. They are such incredible people, incredible scientists, and doctors, and they are very knowledgeable.

So if you're looking for a resource, The Ketogenic Bible would be really helpful for you. Again, I'm not a doctor, but I know that this keto bar is a better option and you don't have to eat it every single day.
