Good morning! Welcome to the Keto Mom page. My name is Stephanie. Today, we're officially diving into the new book called, "The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth" by John Maxwell. I've given you an overview, but we're diving into the rest of the book today. If you have the book, awesome! If not, then you can just listen here so you can take away one thought for the day. I feel like most people are starting their new journey, new goals, and their New Year's resolutions today and it's a Monday.

Welcome to day 1 of our Book 11 session

I'm done with all of my DMOs or my Daily Method of Operation. That means I've done all of the things I need to do before my kids wake up. We have four daughters and we homeschool all of them... Also, as you're preparing, planning, and reaching your goals, I want to remind you to write them down. Have a checklist and do them before you do anything else. It helps me by writing things down like I have my dates, I have my word of the year. I have everything that I'm focused on in the morning, and it's super helpful... Alright! We're going to dive into this new book.

How do you get better at what you want to do? If you want to be healthier, stronger, have better relationships, better finances, or if you just want success in any area of your life, the key is personal growth. What is personal growth? It's not letting the world or other people decide your life. But it should be you being intentional about your goals, putting actions behind them, and then focusing on your mindset.


Personal Growth

  • Do you have a mentor?

  • What are you watching?

Check which growth gap trap you have encountered

All of those things play a part in your personal growth and your personal growth is going to depend on your mindset if it's negative or positive. Whatever is going on in your mind, you're going to see it overflow through your words and your actions...

Growth Gap Traps:


Assumption Gap

"ʟ ᴀꜱꜱᴜᴍᴇ ᴛʜᴀᴛ ɪ ᴡɪʟʟ ᴀᴜᴛᴏᴍᴀᴛɪᴄᴀʟʟʏ ɢʀᴏᴡ".


ᴛʜᴇ ᴘʀᴏʙʟᴇᴍ ɪꜱ ᴛʜᴀᴛ ᴡᴇ ᴅᴏɴ'ᴛ ɪᴍᴘʀᴏᴠᴇ ʙʏ ᴊᴜꜱᴛ ꜱɪᴍᴘʟʏ ʟɪᴠɪɴɢ, ᴡᴇ ʜᴀᴠᴇ ᴛᴏ ʙᴇ ɪɴᴛᴇɴᴛɪᴏɴᴀʟ...

You don't automatically get smarter, stronger, skinnier, healthier, or wiser. All of it has to be intentional. Again the Assumption gap, "l assume that I will automatically grow"... If that is you, then take a step back, because clearly, you're not going to automatically get what you want. What do you need to do, to get to where you want to go?


Knowledge Gap

"ɪ ᴅᴏɴ'ᴛ ᴋɴᴏᴡ ʜᴏᴡ ᴛᴏ ɢʀᴏᴡ?"


His mentor asked him, "Do you have a growth plan?". He said, "I don't even know how to grow or even where to start". If that's you, and you're here, then this is a great place to start. This is wisdom and knowledge. This is a growth plan, and this is personal development...


He said "Many people learn only from the school of hard knock life. Difficult experiences, teaching them lessons the hard way. And they change sometimes for the better, but sometimes it's also for the worse. The lessons are random and difficult. It's much better to plan your growth intentionally. You decide where your needs are and if you want to grow. You choose what you want to learn and you follow through with discipline going at the pace that you decide to set". He also talked about working on his attitude, goals, discipline, measuring, and being consistent.


Timing Gap

"ɪᴛ'ꜱ ɴᴏᴛ ᴛʜᴇ ʀɪɢʜᴛ ᴛɪᴍᴇ ᴛᴏ ʙᴇɢɪɴ"


The timing gap could be right now, a lot of people are starting right now. What's great is it's a New Year and most of you, your friends, or your family are starting today. Let me also share this riddle with you about the 5 frogs.

ꜰᴏᴜʀ ᴅᴇᴄɪᴅᴇᴅ ᴛᴏ ᴊᴜᴍᴘ ᴏꜰꜰ ᴛʜᴇ ʟᴏɢ.

ʜᴏᴡ ᴍᴀɴʏ ꜰʀᴏɢꜱ ᴀʀᴇ ʟᴇꜰᴛ?


ᴊᴏʜɴ ꜱᴀɪᴅ, "ᴛʜᴇʀᴇ'ꜱ ᴏɴᴇ!".

ʙᴜᴛ ʜɪꜱ ᴍᴇɴᴛᴏʀ ꜱᴀɪᴅ "ɴᴏ, ᴛʜᴇʀᴇ ᴀʀᴇ ꜱᴛɪʟʟ ꜰɪᴠᴇ ꜰʀᴏɢꜱ ᴏɴ ᴛʜᴇ ʟᴏɢ"


Why? Because there's a difference between deciding and doing. Right now you are all "Doing", because it's a New Year and you are all focused. You're going to have to continue to tune into the page to make sure that you're staying on track. You're going to have to work through the middle and you're going to finish strong...

Deciding is different from Doing
ʜᴇ ꜱᴀɪᴅ, "ᴡʜᴀᴛ ɢʀᴇᴀᴛ ᴀᴄᴄᴏᴍᴘʟɪꜱʜᴍᴇɴᴛ ɪᴛ ᴡᴏᴜʟᴅ ʙᴇ ɪɴ ᴛʜᴇ ᴡᴏʀʟᴅ ɪꜰ ᴇᴠᴇʀʏʙᴏᴅʏ ʜᴀᴅ ᴅᴏɴᴇ ᴡʜᴀᴛ ᴛʜᴇʏ ɪɴᴛᴇɴᴅᴇᴅ ᴛᴏ ᴅᴏ. ᴛʜᴇ ʟᴏɴɢᴇʀ ʏᴏᴜ ᴡᴀɪᴛ ᴛᴏ ᴅᴏ ꜱᴏᴍᴇᴛʜɪɴɢ ʏᴏᴜ ꜱʜᴏᴜʟᴅ ʜᴀᴠᴇ ᴅᴏɴᴇ ɴᴏᴡ, ᴛʜᴇ ɢʀᴇᴀᴛᴇʀ ᴛʜᴇ ᴏᴅᴅꜱ ᴀʀᴇ ᴛʜᴀᴛ ʏᴏᴜ ᴡɪʟʟ ᴀᴄᴛᴜᴀʟʟʏ ɴᴇᴠᴇʀ ᴅᴏ ɪᴛ"...

If you don't have this book, it's fine. You should just listen because there are a lot of one-liners here. I love to hear quotes and I love to write them down. The key is to take action, so make sure it's in your heart and you know what to do with it. He said, "Life lived for tomorrow will always be a day away from being realized. The reality is that you will never get much done unless you go ahead and do it before you are ready. If you're not already intentionally growing, you need to get started today".

Mistake Gap

"ɪ'ᴍ ᴀꜰʀᴀɪᴅ ᴏꜰ ᴍᴀᴋɪɴɢ ᴀ ᴍɪꜱᴛᴀᴋᴇ"


"What would you attempt to do if you knew that you wouldn't fail? A mistake is simply another way of doing things to become intentional about growing. Expect to make mistakes every single day and welcome them as a sign that you are moving forward and you are learning".



Perfect Gap

"ɪ ʜᴀᴠᴇ ᴛᴏ ꜰɪɴᴅ ᴛʜᴇ ʙᴇꜱᴛ ᴡᴀʏ"


There's really no perfect way. Just don't mess up good for perfect, and just take action.


Inspiration Gap

"ɪ ᴅᴏɴ'ᴛ ꜰᴇᴇʟ ʟɪᴋᴇ ᴅᴏɪɴɢ ɪᴛ"


You're starting today and you're excited. The beginning is always exciting. Whatever your goals are for this year, you might hit these "I-don't-feel-like doing-it" moments. Remember, the more you don't feel like doing it, the more you get out of your routine and don't do your habits, there's a greater chance of finding yourself back to where you were last year.

That's why it's so important to have what I call our DMO, (Daily Method of Operation). It's a list of all the things that you want to do every morning, and it's non-negotiable.

Unless for whatever reason, I can't physically get out of bed. But if for reasons like "I don't feel like it", I'm emotional, cranky, or tired, then it doesn't matter. Those things have to be done... So if you get to the middle of this year, even if you're not exactly where you want to be yet, just remember where you came from. Don't use the excuse, "I don't feel like it". You've got to have a decisive mindset like, "I'm going to do it no matter what".


Expectation Gap

"ɪ ᴛʜᴏᴜɢʜᴛ ɪᴛ ᴡᴏᴜʟᴅ ʙᴇ ᴇᴀꜱɪᴇʀ ᴛʜᴀɴ ᴛʜɪꜱ"


Preparation, plus attitude, plus opportunity, plus action equals, most people say "Luck", but hard work gets you to where you want to go. You can't change your destination overnight, but you can change your direction, overnight. You can't change your outcomes right away. You can't change your destination, because nothing is overnight. But you can change your direction by making a pivot and taking action.

But you do know how to get started. Most of you here want fat loss, and you know what to do. If you don't, then you can always learn. Add more wisdom and knowledge. You can learn different recipes, tips, and tricks. You know that the drive-thru is not going to serve you. You know that you should be drinking water instead of all that pop or maybe adding less sugar into your coffee. You know, you should move your body.
