Hey everybody! Welcome to the Keto Mom page. My name is Stephanie. We're going to dive into a Keto tip for you. I'm going to tell you something funny and kind of made my day... But let me ask you first, what is your favorite keto snack?. I'm asking because it gives other people ideas. I'm also packing up some Mom Fuel for Trials, I send them out every day. Your body can make ketones and you can also drink them. Make sure you're also drinking your water, because if you're doing super strict keto or if you've been keto or low carb for a long period of time, you most likely will need electrolytes, so make sure you add those in

Anyway, we had an event at our house a couple of weeks ago and I usually like to have a keto snack bar. I always have keto snacks and low-carb snacks available. I'm not a snacker, because I am usually intermittent fast. If I snack, it's usually a handful of Macadamia nuts, cheese stick, or some Almonds. But I'm really not a snacker, and my routine is to drink water and ketones in the morning.

Ask yourself, "Am I really hungry, or am I just bored?"

By the way, I made the most incredible lunch today. I made a low-carb tortilla. I took a low-carb tortilla, put some G Hughes Sugar-Free Yum Yum Sauce on it, added the chicken and the mozzarella cheese. It was amazing and I probably will eat it every day for lunch until I'm out. It was so good, but make sure you pre-cook the chicken. I love meals because I'm not a snacker. If I need to snack, I will.

In reality, you might just be thirsty or bored. Make you ask yourself, "Am I hungry?", "Am I bored?", or "Am I just eating out of habit?" Because if you're not hungry and you keep eating these Keto bars, thinking it's not a big deal, then you can overeat good food.

Alright! The tip today is very simple, and it's going to help you with grocery shopping, or as you work on your keto, low carb journey.

This can be applied to anything you find at the grocery store, especially if it says keto. Has anybody seen those pizzas that are at Costco? By the way, I love Costco. I love that they have so many organic foods. Okay, so I always tell people, they've got some great foods, but you need to be cautious.

And that's because when keto came around, people started "ketofying" everything with cauliflower. It's kind of a joke. Anyway, Costco has this cauliflower pizza, which I thought was awesome. But when you flip it around, you'll realize that it's not really a Keto pizza. You can't read the labels from the front of the package, and just because it says keto or cauliflower, doesn't mean that it's a great option for you.

Check the serving size right away
The tip is to flip! All I want you to do is flip it over, and read what's on the back. Take for example this little snack bar, usually, I look at the serving sizes right away. It's found at the very top, and this one bar is a serving size.
If you have different things, like nuts that come in bags, the serving size is the key because you can easily overdo a serving size. So I go straight to the carbs, and this one says there are nine carbs in here.

If you're doing a very strict ketogenic diet, which is under 5% carbs a day, and you're doing total carbs, you're going to count that as total carbs. For those who are doing more low carb and making better choices, then this keto bar is better than a Snicker bar. But if you're counting net carbs...

Take the total carbs, which is nine, subtract fiber which is three, because it should not raise your insulin. So now we are down to six, and then we're subtracting sugar alcohols, which is four. We're now down to two net carbs in total.

If you're counting net carbs then this is an awesome choice! If your goal is fifty or sixty carbs or under and you want to make sure you're not overeating, then always check the back. Actually, it even tells you on the front packaging here. It says eleven grams of fat, two net carbs, and twelve proteins. So is this a better option? For sure!... I've actually never tasted it because I'm not a snacker. I prefer a good solid meal, with water and my ketones.

The very first day I tried ketones, I actually thought it was a joke, I'm not going to lie. My husband said, "I ordered you something and I want you to try it". Have you ever tried healthy drinks that taste like grass, dirt, or mud? But my husband has always loved health and fitness. And so I remember he ordered me this little packet and at that time, I just needed to lose the last bit of baby weight after we had our fourth daughter. I needed to lose around ten to fifteen pounds.

I told him, "I hate everything that you order. I hate nasty, disgusting drinks. I hate powdered drinks. I don't actually want to drink it". But he insisted on me to try it.

So I took the packet, put it in some water, shook it up, and drank it. I was at a homeschool conference at that time, and I called my husband. I was sitting inside the bathroom stall, to see if the stick turned purple. Have you guys ever peed on the sticks and waited for them to turn purple? They're not always accurate, and the longer you do low carb or keto, they won't work. Anyway, so I peed on the stick, and it turned purple. And I was the only mom awake at that conference at three o'clock. Do you know how you hit that three o'clock wall? I used to always need a nap.

Ketones helped me in so many ways
I called my husband and said, "I don't know what this is but it's my first day of drinking them. I love them and I need some more. Don't give it to anybody, don't give any to our friends or neighbors"...

Because at that time the company had just started, and there were only a few stocks to share. I needed them to stay awake for my kids because I was so sick of taking naps. I also lost the last fifteen pounds of baby weight, and my husband lost around fifty pounds. I told him, I will never share it and he should not ask me to share it. I'm a mom, I don't have time to share anything because I homeschool our four girls.

That's kind of where it started, and then I started tracking our life online. I started sharing keto recipes, tips, and tricks that helped our family. I figured, if we were learning, then for sure somebody else wanted to learn. The product is incredible, if it wasn't incredible, I wouldn't be drinking it for six years. But it's only a tool and not a magic pill.

We were at the tennis courts today because two of our daughters are playing tennis and we have a family membership. And then a young kid, I don't know if he was in high school or early college. He was taking our pictures and asking us questions. We were telling him about the girls, and what grades they were in. So my husband and I, and our four daughters were there.

And he said, "What grade is Stephanie in?". He actually thought Steve was our dad, and my girls were my younger sisters.

My daughter Amelia was like "Whatever mom!". It was so funny because he thought I was young, actually, I'm 38. Anyways, I hope I made you laugh. If you seriously want to laugh.
