Mind Shift: Talent Is A Hallucinogen (Mind Shift by Erwin McManus)

Hello, Welcome to the Keto Mom page, my name is Stephanie and we're diving into the Mind Shift by Erwin McManus. My hope is to help you get started on the right mindset, and look at life in a different perspective. My hope is that you can look at life with a positive perspective.

MIND SHIFT NUMBER 6: TALENT IS A HALLUCINOGEN

I'm going to pick out my favorite parts of the book to give you something to think about.

"We live in a world of hallucinogens or illusions. This is especially true when it comes to our beliefs about failure and success. We bet on people that have talent, we overlook character, and we underestimate grit. We bet on talent".

Sometimes, people attach talent with success. Some think that they can't be successful if they don't have talent.

THE FOOTBALL PLAYER

He told a story about a football player who had all the talent in the world. This football player should have gone down in history as the most talented football player in the world. Except for one thing, he didn't show up for his team.

He had the talent but he had the ego.

And it took him way above his character. He didn't show up for his team, he complained about things, and he walked out of the field when they lost.

He had this arrogance thinking nobody can beat him. He should have been the Michael Jordan of football, except, now, he's known as one of the most talented people that went down in the worst way possible in football history. And it was all due to his character.

"Talent creates illusion of success. It causes you to believe a false reality that inborn skills are what separates the best from the rest. You may be more talented than anybody in the room, but that doesn't mean that you will be the most successful in the room".

"Everyone knows in theory that hard work and discipline are important, but do you pay attention to integrity and humility? It doesn't matter if you are the first round draft pick or the fastest rising executive. All the talent in the world is not guaranteeing you success. Talent is a sign of promise, but without discipline, you will never realize its potential. You cannot say that talent is translated into success. It must be forged in a pressure cooker of adversity and centered by character".

You can be as talented as you want, or feel like you don't have any talents. Fact is, you probably fall in line somewhere. Our daughter's boyfriend's mom is incredibly talented. She makes the most beautiful murals ever. But what I love about her is she has incredible character. You might also know some people who are extremely talented, but what you probably don't know is the discipline, character, and integrity that they had to pt in, to get to where they are today.

TALENT, CHARACTER, PLUS HARDWORK

If you would have seen me eight or nine years ago, the very first time I pressed record and went on a live video on my social media platforms, I turned beet red.

I had hives up and down my neck, and I got super nervous and super sweaty. The very first time I spoke in front of a whole group, our CEO put me on a stage and told me to share my story. I was super nervous, my notes were in front of me, I covered up my face, and I fumbled over my words.

When I got off the stage I told myself that I was never going to do that again. I felt that I did not have talent in that area. But what's great is my mentor and my husband saw more in me. There are people that saw things in me that I didn't see in myself.

We had people who believed in us. We have the character, integrity, and the discipline to keep moving forward no matter what. It wasn't an overnight success, it took a lot of ups and downs, and things to learn. It wasn't a natural gift, but we didn't quit. We had incredible people who poured into us. So don't count yourself out because there are gifts and talents that you have inside of you. And if somebody has been telling you that you're great at something, maybe you should start listening to them.

Talent isn't everything! It's character, grit, discipline, and integrity. It's who you are becoming as a person that will take to those gifts and talents that you might not see right now.

"You could go back to your teenage self and tell him that you have all of the talent that you need to live the most extraordinary life that you could even imagine. The question is, will you have the character to sustain it?"

"Your character is more important than the talent. Don't be discouraged if your talent doesn't explode into a world like fireworks. Most of us are late bloomers possessing talents that require a slow burn".

Aspire for the life of virtue.

Be humble

Be kind

Be generous

Be contagious

Be courageous

Have integrity

Tell the truth

Express gratitude

Make love your motive always

Serve

Let who you are be the best future ever

You do have gifts and talents, and you do have something to offer to the world. It might not be a firework in somebody's life or in an environment. But if you go through life and stay humble, be kind, be generous, courageous, have integrity, tell the truth, express gratitude, serve, and make love your motive, then those things will change your life.

"Character, on the other hand, prepares you for the long journey ahead. And it's more important than how you finish".

Character is what you should be going after and not just talent or holding yourself back because you don't feel like you're talented. So again, we are going through the Mind Shift by Erwin McManus. I truly believe that your mindset and the way you start your day is important. It's all about the way you think. If you believe that you can then you will. If you believe that you can't, then you're right.
