The Wealth Money Can't Buy

We're diving into "The Wealth Money Can't Buy" by Robin Sharma. Building a life filled with purpose and joy can really complement the lessons you're already embracing about slowing down, avoiding burnout, and allowing room for self-compassion.

Eat Alone Fairly Often

"Have you ever eaten alone at a restaurant? How do you grow braver? Easy. You regularly do frightening things".

STORY TIME

I did CrossFit in the past, but when we moved to Florida I wasn't interested in doing CrossFit anymore. They were just way more competitive than I wanted to be. So I signed up for a gym by myself, but I was too scared so I canceled it. I tried to work out at home but it wasn't going how I wanted it to go. So my husband signed me up and paid for it, so I had no choice but to go. I got out of my comfort zone, and now I love it!

"The discomfort of growth is always smaller than the heartbreak of regret. And at the last hour of your final day, it won't be all of the things that you did that will bring you sorrow, but all of the things that you didn't do".

"All of the dreams that you didn't pursue, all of the fears that you didn't face, and all of the opportunities you didn't seize, and all of the travels you didn't take, and all the books you didn't read, and all the love that you didn't give".

You should picture yourself when you pass away, what do you want people to say about you?

Think about what will be said about you when you pass away. There are things that I want to do today that will leave a legacy for my girls, things that I really don't want to do because it's uncomfortable. There are things that feels so hard to do, but when I'm gone my girls will appreciate it.

Thinking about the legacy you want to leave behind can be such a powerful motivator.

It’s not easy to step into those uncomfortable spaces, but the impact you’ll have on your daughters' lives will be lasting. By pushing through the hard things now, you're not only setting an example of resilience but also creating something meaningful for them to hold onto when you're no longer here.

"A great way to start optimizing your self confidence and and overall fearlessness is to eat alone".

Eating alone can be a powerful way to build self-confidence because it challenges the social norms that make people uncomfortable with solitude. It teaches you to be comfortable in your own company, without relying on external validation. It’s a small but significant step toward becoming more fearless and self-assured, as you become more comfortable doing things independently.

Try going to a restaurant alone and feel the discomfort. Don't get on your phone, just sit there and look at the people, enjoy your food, and take in the environment. You might get some weird looks or some might even laugh.

"To just sit there alone, without being on your phone, is actually a rare thing. Without a device and with zero escape routes in a crowded restaurant with others nearby, laughing, drinking, eating, and merely connecting".

"The way you do one thing creates the way you do everything. And to be brave in one area is a practice for being brave in other areas of your life. And being your bravest self is so key to leading the richest life, real riches".

"Frank Herbert, the author of Dune, once said 'I must not fear. Fear is a mind killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to not pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path where fear has gone there will be nothing, only I will remain".

By acknowledging fear, facing it head-on, and allowing it to pass through us, we can come out stronger on the other side.

The imagery of fear as a "mind killer" highlights how paralyzing it can be, but also how temporary it becomes once we confront it. The way we approach one aspect of our lives, whether with courage, diligence, or intentions, sets the tone for how we handle everything else. When we practice bravery in one area, it becomes easier to carry that same courage into other parts of our lives.

Being your bravest self means confronting fears, pushing through discomfort, and making choices that align with your values, and that’s how you lead a truly rich life, one that’s full of meaning, purpose, and fulfillment.
